The boys, aged 17 and 18, turned out to be Russian agents. The police force they wanted to blow up was supposed to arrive after a fake call to 102. The suspects planted an improvised explosive device (IED) in an abandoned farm building, equipped with self-tapping screws for maximum damage. They hid the explosive in a garbage bag, and next to it in a juice box was a phone that blocked the entrance to the building. The criminals planned to activate the IED remotely (via a gadget) when the police entered the building. By this time, the agents had to hide.
However, they were detained after they had planted the explosive and had already entered their homes. Phones with evidence of the preparation of a custom-made terrorist attack and components for the explosive were seized from their homes.
The perpetrators are in custody. They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property, - SBU.
